Bio

My name is Corrie Weiss, and I'm the librarian at Isabella High School.  I grew up in Talladega, AL with two older brothers, David and Joey, and a father and mother, Bill and Sandra Hurst.  My father was an independent pharmacist and business owner while my mother kept the books for the business.  I graduated from Talladega High School in May, 1995 with an advanced diploma.  That fall, I attended the University of Montevallo to pursue a BS in Early Childhood/Elementary Education.  I graduated Magna Cum Laude in May, 1999 and got my first teaching job in Talladega City Schools at Dixon Middle School teaching 6th grade science.  The next year, I moved to Houston Elementary School and taught 5th grade the next two years.  My final year at Talladega City Schools was spent at Salter Elementary School teaching 4th grade.  In May 2003, I married my husband, Scott, and moved to Birmingham.  For the next two years, I was a vision therapist at Snider Vision Therapy Centers.  In 2005, I decided to pursue my Masters degree in Library Media from Jacksonville State University. I graduated in August 2006 and got my first librarian position at Midfield Elementary School in Midfield City Schools.  After four years, I transferred to Martha Gaskins Middle School in Birmingham City Schools.  I loved working with middle school students and had a wonderful experience with the faculty at this school.  However, in August, 2013, I transferred to Glen Oaks Elementary School in Fairfield City Schools.  While there, my husband and I expanded our family.  In July, 2014, our son, William "Will" Samuel, was born.  He was long anticipated and has brought so much joy to our lives and a completion to our family.  After four years at Glen Oaks Elementary, I came across an opportunity to interview for the librarian position at Isabella.  I am so grateful to have been chosen for this position, and LOVE the people, atmosphere, and experiences I've had here at Isabella.  I hope to be here for many years to come!
