Alfred Lerner Fellowship with the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous, 2018

Historical Area of Focus:  I have taught at almost all grade levels and a variety of topics in the Social Sciences.  I truly love teaching Social Studies!  However, my major concentration as a historical scholar is Holocaust history.  I am a member of the Teacher Cadre with the Birmingham Holocaust Education Center and work closely with that organization.  I have been blessed to attend three national Holocaust Conferences:  one in Washington D.C. at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum; one in Memphis, Tennessee on Holocaust and Human Behavior; and, this past summer I traveled to New York City to study at Columbia University for the prestigious Alfred Lerner Fellowship with the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous.  I look forward to learning more and, hopefully, traveling to Europe for further study in the future!

I am so excited for my first year at Isabella High School!  This is my eighth year in education and I feel as if I were called to this profession.  I have previously taught in both the public and private school sectors.  For the last two school years, I was a member of faculty at Thorsby High School, teaching Social Studies and Electives.  Prior to that, I held positions at a Birmingham Catholic School and at a school in Jefferson County.  Before I became a teacher, I worked in administration at a law school in Birmingham.

This year, I will be teaching 7th, 8th, and 12th grade Social Studies, as well as a course in Sociology.  I am looking forward to getting to know my students and cannot wait for the exciting content we will cover together.

In addition to being a teacher, I am a busy wife and mother!  My husband's name is Chuck and we have two daughters, Maddie (15) and Carrie Catherine (5).  As a family, we enjoy going out to eat, watching movies, and going on vacations and road trips.  We also have a membership to the Birmingham Zoo and we go often as a family.  Our family loves animals- we have 2 cats (Bingo and Kit), 1 dog (May), and 1 Yellow Nape Amazon Parrot (Mike).  You could say our house is a zoo!
